Victoria Wittig, Ph.D.

Conservation Manager, Illinois/Indiana

Victoria is the Illinois/Indiana Conservation Manager on the Conservation team at Audubon Great Lakes. In this role, she will lead and manage our on-the-ground conservation work across Illinois and Indiana — including overseeing restoration projects in the Calumet region.

Victoria has more than 20 years of experience in the environmental field including roles with academic, science-policy, international development and non-profit organizations. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences from the University of Illinois followed by a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Department of Plant Biology. Her doctoral research examined how rising carbon dioxide and ground-level ozone levels affect the growth and productivity of trees. Victoria grew up in the Calumet region and for more than ten years has worked in collaboration with regional organizations to identify and implement solutions to pressing environmental challenges.

In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, word games and hanging out with her cat Cosmo.
