Help us keep Deadstick Pond Park beautiful and enjoy a morning of family-friendly fun as we give back to nature and connect with our community!

You’re invited to join Audubon Great Lakes and Chicago Park District at Deadstick Pond Park and Big Marsh Park for a cleanup, bonfire and s’mores Saturday, December 7 from 9am – 12pm CT.

Deadstick Pond Park falls within the Calumet region, which has been identified by Audubon scientists as one of the 12 most important coastal wetland regions across the Great Lakes that are most important to conserve or restore for vulnerable marsh birds. Audubon Great Lakes is working with partners, like Chicago Park District, at Deadstick Pond Park and Big Marsh Park to coordinate landscape-scale bird monitoring, restore wetlands habitat by removing invasive plant species, and improving water level control in the area.

Event schedule:

9 am – 11 am: Meet at the intersection of South Stony Island Avenue & East 122nd Street, at Deadstick Pond Park. Roll up your sleeves and pitch in to clean up litter and make Deadstick Pond Park a safe welcoming space for wildlife and people alike. Supplies such as gloves, bags, and grabbers will be provided.

11 am – 12 pm: Unwind after a job well done with a cozy bonfire and delicious s’mores at Big Marsh Park.

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or a first-timer, all are welcome to this free family-friendly event!

What to bring:

  • Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes (layer up!)
  • Sturdy shoes
  • A reusable water bottle
