Nicole Minadeo

Communications Director

Nicole Minadeo oversees communications for Audubon Great Lakes. She is a strategic communications and public relations leader with more than two decades experience working in non-profit and agencies proving strategic communications, crisis management, media relations, event planning and policy and advocacy support.

Most recently, Minadeo served as the Senior Director of Communications and Public Relations at Shedd Aquarium supporting strategic oversight and leadership of Shedd Aquarium’s communications and public relations initiatives that advance the organization’s mission. Minadeo focused her efforts on strategic communications, media relations, issues management, internal communications, influencer relations and integrated campaigns.  During her tenure she secured high level publicity to advance conservation, advocacy, animal care and education programs in national media outlets such as Good Morning America, CBS Sunday Morning, Associated Press, Chicago Tribune, National Geographic, Huffington Post, CNN, BuzzFeed, Mashable, USA Today and more. The coverage has contributed to the aquarium’s position as as one of the most-attended aquariums in the world—welcoming nearly 2 million guests annually.


Prior to Shedd, Minadeo lead communications efforts and crisis management at a public affairs and consulting firm for clients in the public and private sectors on a variety of issues including non-profit, environmental, technology, healthcare, transportation and public safety. She managed media relations campaigns for multiple statewide and national issue advocacy coalitions securing media in Chicago and top-tier news outlets.

Minadeo also previously served as an account manager at a publicity firm specializing in customized public relations programs to support awareness and business development for franchise organizations. During her tenure she developed key relationships with media, worked on various PR campaigns and generated high-level publicity in national, trade and local media publications. Earlier in her career Minadeo spent several years with the Girl Scouts, rising through the organization to become Director of Marketing and Communications and provided support for fund development and special events, and community outreach.

Minadeo also serves as a professional board member for PAWS Chicago and is a Panda Ambassador for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Minadeo graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a specialization in marketing.
