Daniel Suarez

Conservation Director

Daniel Suarez serves as the Conservation Director for Audubon Great Lakes, where he leads the development and implementation of science-driven conservation strategies to protect and restore vital bird habitats across the Great Lakes region. His work focuses on advancing ambitious habitat restoration efforts to safeguard the waters of the Great Lakes and the coastal areas that support hundreds of species of migratory land birds and declining marsh birds.

Daniel oversees the growing portfolio of conservation programs in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin, including Audubon’s Conservation Ranching program and marshbird monitoring programs, building strong partnerships with public agencies, Tribal Nations, nonprofit organizations, and Audubon’s network of chapters, volunteers and community organizations. He collaborates closely with Audubon’s policy and engagement teams to mobilize a diverse and growing constituency that champions sound environmental policy across the region.

Daniel is an active member of the Chicago Wilderness alliance, previously serving on its Steering Committee and co-chairing both the Growing with Agriculture team and the Grassland Bird Task Force.

Daniel joined Audubon in 2014, managing the Audubon Great Lakes Habitat Restoration Internship program and supporting volunteer-led stewardship efforts throughout the Chicago Wilderness region before stepping into a leadership role as Stewardship Program Manager. His career in conservation has included roles at the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Plants of Concern program and as a volunteer leader of Habitat 2030.

He holds a B.A. in Art History and Conservation from Hunter College (CUNY).
